Literary & Creative Translation

Translating literary fiction, non-fiction, and poetry requires something more than vocabulary and grammar. A novel carries the author's voice. A poem carries rhythm and imagery that does not survive a literal rendering. We work only on literary projects where we have translators with active publishing experience in the relevant market.

How it works

Our literary translators have published translations with Portuguese and international publishers. They are not generalists who occasionally handle books; they are working translators whose primary professional activity is literary translation. For fiction, the translator reads the full manuscript before beginning work. They identify the author's register, recurring imagery, and syntactic patterns, and apply a consistent approach throughout. For poetry, we discuss translation strategy with the author or publisher first: literal renderings, loose interpretations, or fully adapted versions are all valid approaches depending on the purpose. We work with publishers submitting to international rights markets, independent authors commissioning translations for self-publication, and institutions requiring literary materials in a new language.
